Safety: Issue 103 of Vertical is entirely dedicated to this topic.

Among the featured articles is a substantial report by Claude Remy on climbing anchors, which we recommend everyone read. The Swiss climber, a long-time pioneer on matters relating to climbing safety, meticulously interviewed experts in materials technology, manufacturers, and bolters worldwide.

The article published in Issue 103 of Vertical is a powerful synthesis of this work: it outlines all the material-related problems (stainless steel and titanium) accepted by the current certification standards for anchors, with particular reference to corrosion. Based on scientific principles, it debunks false myths and legends about the materials used for bolting, and provides useful tools for selecting anchors according to the environment in which they are placed.

In my opinion, it is the most complete popular science report on the subject currently available.

We recommend it to all bolters, to the bodies that finance the equipment of climbing sites, and also to climbers, so that they can form an idea about the anchors they entrust their lives to.
