Gole del Melfa is probably one of the most beautiful climbing areas in central Italy.

It was discovered by Andrea Imbrosciano which  in the early nineties equipped the first amazing area: Regalo di Natale.

The rock wall is South-West faced, thus it’s ideal for climbing in winter and during the mid seasons. As climbing is forbidden from January 1 to July 31, the ideal seasons are only autumn and the early winter until December 31. (NOT LATE WINTER NOR SPRINGTIME!). Please, pay attention to this strict prohibition, because the fines are severe!

The limestone quality is excellent.

The climbing style is technique and athletic, sometimes very demanding, and the routes are of medium and high difficulties.

The approach is short and easy, and the space under the routes is comfortable, thus the crag is good for families with children.

Take the highway A1 Roma-Napoli, and exit at Pontecorvo-Castrocielo.

Then turn left toward Castrocielo-Roccasecca. Continue straight, passing over the highway. Once at the big crossroad with the SS6 Casilina road (with a traffic light), turn left. Then, once at the next traffic light, turn right.

Continue straight on the main road up to a hairpin on the right, with a widening on the left, in front of a cemetery.

The road on the left of the cemetery goes into the gorges of the Melfa river.

Climbing is forbidden from January 1 to July 31. Pay attention, because the fines are severe.
