Something about il Tempietto

Description

The Il Tempietto (= Small Temple) is located at the midpoint of the Frasassi Canyon, on the left side of the Sentino river.

The first routes of the crag (on the rightmost part) were set in 1997. In 201, for the Frasassi Climbing Festival, the existing routes have been re-equipped, and new ones (of low/medium/high level) have been set.

The routes climb the rock wall at the extremity of the big cave around the Temple of the Valadier.  In the inner part of the cave, there are some routes too (most of which impracticable, some of which not yet free climbed), but not much interesting. May be in the future these routes will be finished and will make this inner part more interesting.

The routes during the winter can be wet, especially after heavy rainfall.

Approach

Take the SS76 road and exit at Valtreara. The SS76 road can be taken from the A14 highway, exiting at Ancona Nord, from East, and from the SS318, exiting at Gualdo Tadino, from West.

Then, from West, exit at Valtreara and follow the signs to the touristic centre Grotte di Frasassi (Frasassi Caves). From East, instead, exit at Sassoferrato and follow first the signs to the touristic centre Grotte di Frasassi (Frasassi Caves), then the ones to San Vittore.

Pass the San Vittore delle Chiuse town and the entrance of the Grotte di Frasassi (Frasassi Caves)  and park at the end of the Gola di Frasassi (Frasassi Canyon), a stone-paved widening, on the right.
