Something about Ocre

Falesia di Ocre

The crag of Ocre is a big mass of limestone surrounded by a forest, faced to North, East, and West.

The rock is grey/yellow limestone. The climbing style is technical, though the hardest lines require also strength.

The spot was discovered and exploited by the Mountain Guide Maurizio Felici.

The base of the wall is comfortable, and the approach is easy and quite short.

Due to its altitude and to the shadow of the trees it's recommended for climbing in summer and during the mid-seasons.

Approach

Take the highway to L'Aquila and exit at L'Aquila Ovest. Then take the SS 17 road. After a dozen of Kilometers, you get to a junction with a sign to Ocre. Follow this sign and turn right taking the SS 5bis road.

Once at the cemetery of San Panfilo d'Ocre, park your vehicle in the nearby meadow.
