The Hut Duca degli Abruzzi dominates the plateau of Campo Imperatore from the Ridge of Mount Portella, at 2388 meters. It's located in the heart of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, in the footsteps of the Corno Grande [Big Corn, n.d.t.] of the Mount Gran Sasso (Western Side) and close to main peaks of the mountain massif. Owned by the Italian Alpin Club of Rome, it's ideally located both for trekking and rock climbing. It offers to the hikers, to the mountaineers, and also to the mere mountain lovers the opportunity to rest and eat local dishes, and, eventually, stay overnight in a majestic mountain environment.
The Duca degli Abruzzi is renowned for the Quality of its cuisine.
It received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2017 / 2019.
In addition to the restaurant, there is a bar service, with warm drinks, soft drinks, beers, and pieces of cake.
The menu offers a wide variety of choices, and even gluten-free trying to find alternative solutions.
Among the specialities, there are Pizzas, Polenta with pore mushrooms or with tomato sauce and sausage, mixed boards, fettuccine, soups, home made cakes, local wines, soft drinks and local liqueurs.
Take the highway A24 Roma-l’Aquila and exit at Assergi. After a few dozen meters, take the junction to Teramo (SS17bis) and continue up to Campo Imperatore, where you find a wide parking spot. Leave there your vehicle and take the wide path toward the Astronomic Observatory's dom. Just passed that Observatory you find a junction with a sign. Turn left to the Hut (if you turn right, you go toward Mount Aquila). Continue for about 40 minutes along the comfortable uphill path, that zigzags up to the Duca degli Abruzzi hut.
